Gustave Flaubert was in a hurry to return to his house in Croisset, which had been occupied by the Prussians during the war, and get back to writing. But family problems, financial worries and his own demons persisted in distracting him from his work. From these torments, however, would emerge Three Tales, his masterpiece.
